Here Is A Very Good Tool to Engage Students in Remote Writing Activities
Since the outbreak of the pandemic several digital platforms and mobile applications started incorporating features designed specifically to support distance learning. We have already featured several of these tools in the past few weeks and today we are sharing with you another useful platform to help you in your remote teaching. The popular BoomWriter tool offers a wide variety of features that allow you to engage students in remote writing activities. It also provides you with the tools to monitor students’ writing in realtime enabling you to provide individualized feedback to each of your students. The process is simple and easy.
To start, you need to create a new class and add students to it. BoomWriter provides you with different options for setting up students accounts: you can use Google single sign-in if your school already uses Google for Education; you can import them from an Excel or CSV file, or manually create them on BoomWriter. When you add students to any class, they will be automatically added to the assignments you create for that class. Once your class is set up you can then start creating your assignments. There are various types of writing activities you can create and assign for your class. Whether it’s persuasive writing essays, informational writing, poetry, non-fiction, or vocabulary-based activities, BoomWriter Assignment tool enables you to engage your students in numerous group-writing activities. While creating writing assignments you have the option to activate the Grading feature which allows you to ‘easily grade students’ submissions using standards-based rubrics to track individual and whole class performance’. As the students work on their assignments, you can monitor their writing in real-time enabling you to provide timely personalized feedback to them. When the assignment is completed students can add their work to their Boomwriter portfolios or publish and share it with others.BoomWriter Student Journals is another great feature to help you engage students in remote writing activities. As a teacher, you can provide a writing prompt you want students to write about. You can even specify vocabulary items you want them to include in their writing. Again, you can monitor students writing (journalling) in real-time and provide individualized feedback on students entries. “Best of all, the families of your students will have the option at the end of the school year to purchase a published copy of their child’s journal. It’s the ultimate keepsake of each student’s experience as a writer in your classroom.”Watch the video below to learn more
